Renowned Telugu comedian and actor Dhanraj, famous for his roles in films and the hit tv show Jabardasth, is making his directorial debut with Ramam Raghavam. This bilingual film explores the emotional bond between a father and son, promising audiences a heartfelt cinematic experience.
Dhanraj Transition from Comedian to Director
Dhanraj’s move to direction comes as a surprise to many. In his interview with SumanTV, he revealed,
“I never imagined becoming a director, but when creative differences with another director surfaced, the producers believed in me and offered me this chance. I felt it was time to take the challenge.”
He added,
“I’ve acted in over 100 films, observing legendary directors. That experience gave me the confidence to tell a story that’s close to my heart.”
A Story That Resonates Across Generations
Ramam Raghavam centers on the strained relationship between a loving father and his rebellious son. National Award-winning actor Samuthirakani plays the father, while Dhanraj himself portrays the son.
Dhanraj shared,
“When I approached Samuthirakani sir, I was nervous, but his reply, ‘I trust you, and I’ll do it for you,’ gave me strength.”
The film captures the trials and tribulations of their bond, highlighting the universal struggle between youthful mistakes and parental love.
Breaking Away from Formulaic Cinema
Unlike typical commercial films, Ramam Raghavam focuses on emotional depth over grand action sequences.
“I wanted the audience to feel every emotion. There’s no unnecessary glamour or fights, just pure storytelling,” Dhanraj emphasized.
Supporting roles by Harish Uttaman, Pramodini, and Sunil (of Pushpa fame) add richness to the narrative.
A Skilled Technical Team
Cinematographer Durga Prasad, music composer Arun Chiluvuri, and veteran editor Marthand K. Venkatesh form the core technical team. Dhanraj noted,
“Durga Prasad brought my vision to life, Arun’s music elevated the emotion, and Marthand sir ensured every frame had impact.”

Set for a worldwide release on February 21, Ramam Raghavam aims to strike a chord with audiences, especially families. Dhanraj hopes, “This film will remind everyone of the importance of family. I poured my heart into it, and I hope viewers feel that connection.”
