Director Ram Narayan is all set to bring a unique cinematic experience with his upcoming film Laila, starring Vishwak Sen in a never-seen-before avatar. The film, set for release on February 14, has already generated significant buzz with its promotional content and the infamous Prudhu Raj controversy. In a recent media interaction, Ram Narayan shared insights about the film’s storyline, challenges, and the bold transformation of the lead actor.

A Story Rooted in Uniqueness
Ram Narayan, who gained fame with the Battala Ramaswamy Biopic (2021), wanted to craft a fresh and unconventional narrative. Speaking about the film’s inception, he said,
After my previous film’s success, I aimed for something unique. The idea of a male protagonist adopting a lady getup intrigued me. It’s a concept that hasn’t been explored in recent Telugu cinema.
The story revolves around a male character working in a beauty parlor, who, due to circumstances, has to disguise himself as a woman. The backdrop of Hyderabad’s Old City adds a realistic layer to the narrative.
Vishwak Sen Transformation and Challenges
Casting a mainstream mass hero like Vishwak Sen in such a role was a challenge.
We approached multiple actors, but they were hesitant. Finally, Sahu Garapati (producer) suggested Vishwak, who was keen on experimenting with such a character. He has always wanted to play a lady role, and this story clicked with him instantly, said the director.
To perfect his transformation into Laila, the team worked with prosthetics expert Nicky, known for his work in Remo. Vishwak underwent several look tests, and the final results stunned everyone.
Many couldn’t believe it was him in the first look, Ram Narayan revealed.
A Clean Yet Bold Film
Addressing concerns about the trailer’s boldness, the director clarified,
The film is not vulgar. It has necessary naughtiness but is visually clean and appealing to all audiences—mass, class, and families alike.
He assured that Laila is a well-balanced entertainer with humor, action, and emotion.
